And if you ask my solution, why have games boot into their own OS where they can do anticheat in that kernel, instead of the kernel i use for other things too

We would often download the latest kernel overnight from a bbs or mirror site beforehand days before installing because you often needed the latest kernel to get your hardware working

Linux isn’t getting “locked out” of age-gated services (those checks happen at the site itself for ID vendors, digital ID wallets), not via the OS

3: Sell the iPod and get one of the many different digital audio players available on the market as most are OS agnostic (they show up as a USB mass storage device) and most use MicroSD cards to store the music meaning you can move the card to a new player as you upgrade later (so you are not locked to one vendor)

You can pull the power during an update and it’ll be fine

Slim chance, but only thing I can think of is maybe some module your boot process depends on is no longer built-in the kernel and needs to be added to initrd manually

You can mask arbitrary package versions or version ranges to reliably stay on an older kernel, driver version (for example on my desktop I currently mask >=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-590, meaning “give me the newest 580 version”)

So - yes money got “stolen” from actual OSS projects that keep world’s lights on, yes vibecoding has not been proven to scale or endure multiple decades like Debian, Gentoo, Fedora etc

imo the only useful place to use secure boot is on a laptop with password protected bios and encrypted disk, in case someone wants to steal it they can’t recover your data or if they want to put a virus in your pc they literally can’t

And if I can’t boot I don’t do it

It’s been a while but for me personally, the number one thing that saves your ass in event of failure is installing both the up to date and the LTS kernel
